It’s official, Google is going to start favoring responsive designs when determining search rankings. In the article, Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Land states that “Google said that on April 21, 2015, Google’s mobile ranking factors will not only label your site as mobile-friendly, but will also use that to determine if your site should rank higher in the search results. Google said this algorithmic change will have a “significant impact” in the mobile search results, impacting all languages worldwide.“
Any static website, come April of this year, may notice their more modern competitors getting a leg up on the search rankings because they have a responsive design. With 80% of Internet users now owning a smart phone, its only smart to cater your business information on a smaller scale.
